Paper Lions closed out a September residency on a high note. The 4-piece hailing from PEI is comprised of brothers John MacPhee (vocals, guitar, keys) and Rob MacPhee (bass, vocals), Colin Buchanan (guitar, vocals), and David MacDonald (drums, vocals). The band’s chemistry on stage is evident and with charisma combined with smile-inducing pop rock (e.g. “Stay Here For A While), most of the crowd found it hard to not at least tap their feet. While Paper Lions played some newer material, songs from Trophies had many singing along.
The residency, presented by Young Lions Music Club, seemed to be quite a success. LOOM and Lou Canon were on this bill, but the previous nights included Allie Hughes, Nick Rose (of Sweet Thing), Dwayne Gretzky, Gavin Slate, Green Go, and Petty Victories. After a solid few nights at the Supermarket, it was easy for the band to fill the venue for their set on their last night. The band even had some viewers tuning in to watch their set via Livestream.
Although the band ended their September residency, Paper Lions soon embarked on a month long cross-Canada tour, giving the rest of Canada a chance to sing and dance along with their pop rock tunes. The band will finally get a bit of a break after their final show of The Rolling Oyster Review tour on November 12th at the Seahorse Tavern in Halifax.
