CMW Preview: The Jefferson

Chiara recommends The Jefferson:
Pre-CMW: Tuesday March 20th @ 11:30pm, Czehoski’s (via Indie Week) $6
Acoustic: Thursday March 22, 2012 @ 8:10pm, Sennheiser Lounge Library Bar
Main Event: Thursday March 22, 2012 @ 12:00pm, Painted Lady
Aussie BBQ: Saturday March 24, 2012 @ 1:10pm, El Mocambo, Upstairs

Sydney, Australia’s The Jefferson are a bit of an anomaly. While their easy breezy pop rock songs are polished and sublimely Top 40 radio-worthy, and have scored spots on multiple television shows, the band somehow remains unsigned.

Fan of Degrassi: The Next Generation? Then you might recognize their powerfully pretty number “Running” from the season finale last April:

Geoff Rana (vocals, guitar), Daniel Van der Merwe (guitar), Jared King (bass), and Andy Horvath (drums) met while attending the Australian Institute of Music and have been turning heads ever since. Their earnest and compelling live performance earned all sorts of accolades in Austin when they played SXSW last year; and this March they are coming to take over Canada at CMW.

The Jefferson’s latest EP Losing Control just dropped on the 14th and is available for free download on their Bandcamp. Overflowing with swelling melodies and Rana’s striking yet airy voice that was meant for the main-stage, it will be a perfect accompaniment to the sunny days ahead.

Do yourself a favour and see what all the buzz around The Jefferson is about. With four opportunities to catch them this week, be sure to take advantage of at least one. Because the next time these Aussies hit Toronto, tickets won’t be this cheap, the venues won’t be this intimate, and you won’t have the luxury of being able to say you were a fan before they hit it big. It’s only a matter of time.

Full details for each show can be found via Canadian Music Week or the band’s Facebook.

Been a fan for a while but dont think they are quite the same as when Andrew Turner was their guitarist, gone downhill a little bit since, still they should do alright
