Date of event: September 7, 2011
We had the opportunity to check out the launch party of The French Connection Canadian Indie Music Program. Living up to their stylish reputation, French Connection put together a lavish event with hors d’oeuvres, complimentary drinks, giveaways bags and shopping.
The highlight of the night was, of course, the performances. All 4 bands that were part of the event are local bands, already favourites of Toronto’s indie music scene. Throughout the evening, Young Empires were spinning tracks to set the mood. Freedom or Death took the stage first, followed by The Balconies. This show acted as a TIFF kick off for the band, as they had a big TIFF show planned for later in the festival. Dinosaur Bones, who were taking a brief break from touring My Divider, which was released earlier this year, closed out the night.
The also event doubled as a photography contest with TCHAD Quarterly. Before the big day, photographers took promo shots of the bands that were slated to perform. These photos were displayed above the makeshift stage near the entrance of the store. Followers of TCHAD were able to vote via the website and twitter and then the winner was announced at the launch. The lucky winner was Lindsey Drennan, the photographer of Young Empires.
Thanks to French Connection for the great event! Check out some Rachel’s photos of the evening below.
