Date of show: May 27, 2011
Christina Maria took the stage wearing a grey trench coat and as soon as she started to sing, she had the crowd captivated with her strong, sultry vocals. With a pop folk sound, the jazz training she’s had can be heard in her vocals. Christina interacted with the crowd between songs and told stories of when and where she wrote songs, some stories a little more personal than others. When she took off her coat and revealed her red dress underneath, I could hear someone mumble “wow” under their breath.
By the end of her set, it was evident how much Christina Maria had charmed the crowd at the Cameron House. Some had even lined up to tell Christina how much they loved her set. Christina Maria has released Tide You Over, an EP to tide over fans until the release of her next full-length. Check out the EP, but stay tuned for even more music from Christina Maria.
A barefoot Lindsay Ferguson kicked off the night. With powerful vocals, Ferguson hushed the crowd without the use of a band, which she indicated is not a normal occurrence. Ferguson’s banter was amusing, really making her sassy personality evident. She told some stories, one being a show where she played in a pub with Deadmau5 playing above, which, of course, didn’t complement her pop/roots sound. While that was a bit of a horror story for her, the audience was incredibly attentive during this intimate set, which Ferguson repeatedly thanked the audience for. “You don’t always get that,” she said. It was a lovely way to start off the night.
