Date of show: June 20, 2014
There’s something absolutely electric about Annie Clark (a.k.a. St. Vincent), as she exhibits quite a personality on stage. After standing atop a raised platform on the stage, she descended by going down the stairs upside down on her back. Plus, I can’t forget to mention her cornrows and her robotic, choreographed dancing. It was all a little weird, but also somehow really magical.
To a packed Yonge-Dundas Square, St. Vincent leaned heavily on her acclaimed self-titled album that was released in February, but she still played a couple old favourites, including “Cruel,” “Cheerleader” and “Your Lips are Red.” As St. Vincent just continues to rise as a star, seeing her play a relatively intimate (and free!) show for NXNE was a real treat. –CL
