Shot of choice: Believe it or not, the band actually preferred not to do shots, at least on this night.
Little City made sure to make an impression at their big hometown show at the El Mocambo. The band is typically comprised of Frances Miller (vocals, guitar, French horn), Shaun Axani (guitar, banjo, lap steel, harmonica, vocals), Dave Clarke (bass), Trevor Kai (keys, accordion), Jordan Axani (guitar), and Thom Macfarlane (drums). But on this night, band added even more texture with friends on violin, horns, additional guitar and additional percussion. The band’s folk rock sound is dynamic, with Miller’s commanding yet smile-inducing vocals leading the way. As a treat, Little City covered TV on the Radio’s “Wolf Like Me”.
The show was not without humour. As Shaun attempted to cool off by taking off his button-down shirt, revealing his white shirt below, someone in the audience yelled, “Take it off!” Shaun then joked, “I think that was one of my students that yelled that…” Later, someone yelled, “Jordan, have my babies,” which led Shaun to say that their parents, who were present, would be glad to hear that.
Overall, it was a great set by Little City and a great way to end a night of solid music.
