Sandman Viper Command – Rough Love

Band: Sandman Viper Command
7″: Rough Love
Shot of choice: whiskey/scotch

Burlington’s Sandman Viper Command is comprised of Rob Janson (vocals, guitar), Aaron Harvey (bass), Daniel Reardon (guitar), and Matt Meyer (drums). The 4-piece has worked hard to get their debut full length Everybody See This out there, constantly gigging and releasing some hilarious tour videos. While it’s a great release, it’s their live show that really garners attention. That being said, their recently Rough Love 7” is a major advancement in their recorded sound. The 7” was recorded and produced by Jon Drew (Alexisonfire, Tokyo Police Club, Fucked Up) and I’m sure that helps, but I’m more likely to attribute it to their growing up, both in age and in skill.

The title track is a bit of a longer tune and starts off slow with Janson’s pleading vocals as the focus. With about 2 minutes left in the song, there’s a change and the song picks up tempo a bit and then builds up for a rockin’ ending. “Rough Love” has grown into personal favourite. I’ll also attest that it’s even better live. “New Fast” is quick hitter and a rocking tune from the start. It’s also a great example of how much the band has developed their sound, with noisy guitars and an energy that translates so well.

Sandman Viper Command will be playing Edgefest tomorrow on the XM Side Stage at 1:40. Make sure you get to Downsview Park early enough to catch them!
