Band: The Breaks
EP: Odd Man Out
Shot of choice: Rumple Minze (peppermint schnapps)
The Breaks is a 4-piece band based out of St. Louis, Missouri. Their 5-song EP, Odd Man Out, is a strong collection of power pop/rock tunes. The band is made up of Collin Christopher (vocals, guitar, organ), Sean Michael Gartner (guitar, vocals), John Rambo Stefanski (drums, vocals), and Karl Stefanski (bass, vocals).
The opener, “JumpStart,” is certainly an energetic start to the EP and almost has a bit of a country tinge. “Move On” really highlights their ability to write a quick power pop song, which is why it’s likely my favourite on the EP. Throughout the EP, there is a familiarity to the vocals and the guitar work is consistently an attention-graber. “Marchimonium” is a solid song that closes out the EP and it has the silliest ending, really making it hard not to smile.
Now, are The Breaks doing anything new? Well, no, not really. But that doesn’t mean this collection of songs isn’t enjoyable. The Breaks banged out this EP quickly, in just a couple days, and only a month into their formation. Honestly, if this is what the guys can do in just a month, time will only encourage the development of their own flavour.
The EP is available for FREE download here.
