The Ruby Spirit – Born Under A Veil

Band: The Ruby Sprit
EP: Born Under A Veil
Shot of choice: Jack Daniels

As soon as Paige Boy (vocals) hits the first note of “Tin Can Bees,” the first song on Born Under A Veil, it’s hard not to pay attention. She has a powerful voice that just exudes confidence… and that’s what it sounds like RECORDED. Along with Alex Pulec on guitar and backup vocals, these two make up the songwriting dynamo that is the foundation of The Ruby Spirit. The rest of the band includes Mickey Donnell (bass), Jay Cipparrone (drums) and Juliana Eye (organ, synth, keys).

Although Paige’s striking vocals may be the gem that makes The Ruby Spirit stand out, what makes them unique are their arrangements and their ability to create a sound that packs a powerful punch. Overall, Born Under A Veil is a kaleidoscope of sound, both catchy and brazen. Their pop sound dances with the dramatic and can be almost musical theatre-like, particularly with “Sound Of The Bell” and “Caligari.” Each of the 6 songs on this EP can stand on their own but also flow together so well at a pace that doesn’t lose attention. It’s quite a solid recording.

Listening to this EP, I can imagine how much fun this band would be to see live. Even recorded, Paige sounds like she is having fun performing. The Ruby Spirit has put together a collection of songs that convey their dynamic energy. We absolutely encourage you to listen to Born Under A Veil. Be sure to check them out live and buy them shots too! We hear they’ve got a big Halloween bash on October 29th at Lee’s Palace and, judging from how fun this EP is, it should be quite the party!

Like the kid who stand up in class and speaks out against the teacher yet is still loved because of his internal sweetness. Great quote!

Great writing indeed! 🙂 Enjoyed it very much, and all very accurate! I also have a review up, and it sounds like we both felt quite similar about it!
